Default DYNAMAT ALTERNATIVE!!!!!

I didn't want to spend $200 on dynamat for my trunk SO I SPENT $13!!!!!! I went to Lowes and after a lot of research decided on a product called Peel and Seal. It was $13 for a 25' x 6" roll. It has an aluminum back to it and it looks just like dynamat. I applied it to the bottom of my trunk lid and covered all holes where the change in air pressure from the subs could get in an THERE ARE NO MORE RATTLES! AT ALL! I turned up my 2 12"s all the way and the only thing that rattles is a loose wire under the car which is about to be fixed. For anyone with subs go to Lowes and buy this product! It will save u tons of money!

P.S. It doesn't smell at all and is exactly as useful and convenient as dynamat!

its very easy. Took me about an hour, taking my time, and the result is great. Ill post pics soon but its dark right now so prob. tom. It was prob. easier than dynamat because it doesn't stick to your hands but it CLINGS to metal.

so how many rolls did you need and did you stick it to the metal and the molding in the trunk or just the metal?

YEAH ILL POST PICS SOON! PROMISE! I used 1 roll and overlapped in some areas. Im going to do the rest of my car and trunk as soon as I have an open day. If the molding, you talk about is the black plastic trim, then no I took that off before (very easy) I did it and only have the metal behind that and the trunk lid done so far. The funny thing is I went to Wal-Mart the other day to buy Mr. Clean autodry and happened to see THE !EXACT SAME STUFF! SOLD FOR USE INPLACE OF DYNAMAT EXCEPT 10x THE PRICE! It made me laugh.

When I had my subs close to the trunk lid so that the sound waves would bounce off of the aluminum backing all the vibration stopped. You could still tell the trunk was unhappy by the shaking of the spoiler etc. but that is common with dynamat also. It sounds 100x better. I recently moved my subs to a far back position in my trunk and found that the vibration came back because only the trunk lid is done, but this should go away once the rest of the trunk is covered. If this doesn't make sense its because when the subs were close to the trunk the sound waves were directed straight at the aluminum backing which easily deflected them. With them far away from the trunk, the only area done, the rest of the metal in the trunk has a vibration which causes the trunk to shake also.

The reason the car metal is not allowed to absorb many waves and vibrations is because of the layer of rubber between the adhesive and aluminum backing.

The reason this product, and dynamat, is effective is because it stiffens the trunk and also allows the trunk to deflect the sound waves and not absorb them as vibration. Once I get the trunk finished all of the vibration should and will stop, and as soon as I do this I will post pics. of my process, final product and prob. my car. For $13, well $26 after I do the whole trunk it was definitly worth it and saved a TON of money off of dynamat now that I found that our trunks need most of the metal covered, and I am able to apply the product and overlap in desired areas in my trunk, unlike dynamat, to achieve the clean sound Im looking for. Im pushing 2 12" subs at 380 RMS EACH with a peak of 1200 watts EACH with a 1200 watt amp. I will never be able to completly eliminate the rattle due to power of the subs but I have already come very close. AND WITH ONLY $26 dollars!

One last thing...The sound quality has increased too much to describe. The subs sound like they hit harder because the sound waves have less surfaces to become distorted and absorbed.

Many misconceptions is that dynamat and other similair products only stiifen the trunk but a key part is in the smoothing and reflecting of the sound waves. I know dynamat has a small pictorial on their products and prob. on their site that will help get my point across.

Once I am done this weekend I will post before and after sound clips so you see what Im talking about and hear for yourself that Im not just cheap and didn't want to spend a lot of money on a brand name..

I repeated myslef a lot...I just wanted to give you the full reasoning and methods of the product and kept adding things LOL.

I also saved a lot of money by switching to GEICO.
