Are you looking at a Saleen, or even own one and not sure if its the real deal [&:] If it is a 1985 - 2003 its very simple. Post the VIN as well as the bumper/firewall/console ID number (these should ALL exist and match as your first hint). Also tell us if its hatch, coupe, or convertable.

If its a 1984, forget about it. There were only 3 made in '84 and same guy owns all 3 of them here in Indy. If its a 2004+ then you'll have to call Patti at Team Saleen as the book was published after the '03 model year.

There are SEVERAL of us in here with the ever popular and handy Saleen Book & Registry. A simple check on our end can verify if its real or not. If you don't get a timely response (this means a day or two, not hours [;)]) feel free to PM me.  Please do not start a separate post about your car because we don't answer right away, if you are in a pinch them PM me.  Otherwise it will get answered by one of the few of us that keep up on this post.

If you want to know what its WORTH - then go to www.nada.com and select Consumer, then Classic Cars, then Sports Cars, then Saleen.  You can ask us all you want, but we use Nada as a guideline and add our opinions [8D]

Rather than bothering Liz over at Team Saleen, if you have an '04 or newer car, send an email to techline@saleen.com with the VIN and bumper #. We can quickily tell if the car is real or not.

Im thinking about picking up a used 97 Saleen S281. Saleen This is a link to some pictures of it. Some things I wanted to find out were A) Is it real? The VIN number is 1falp42x6vf101886 and it is #13. B) Im pretty sure they didnt but the kid says it came factory with a Vortech blower on it, is that true? and C) Can anyone tell by those pics if that is the factory interior for the car. I sent you an email last night. The car is legit - in that the VIN ending in 886 matches 97-013. However, according to the book/saleen registry there is nothing about sc'd 281's until 1999 or 2000 - so I highly doubt that Vortech is Saleen stock. Unless of course it was some sort of promo car or employees car.

Also, the interior looks stock with the exception of the custom red accents on the seats. I don't believe that is stock Saleen.

According to NADA a stock, mint 97 S281 should command $18K at its highest value. I don't consider 43K miles to be a highest value car, maybe more like $15k which just falls below the AVERAGE mark. A car like this that has been modded will always be worth more in the sellers eyes - but in reality I would not give more than $15K for it. It should only have 220hp stock at the flywheel (thats all a S281 was back then) and he is claiming over 375 to the wheel or 400+ with a 104 race tune [&:] IMO thats way too much power than that 2V was built to handle.

I'd be worried about the longevity, not to mention the CURRENT status of the internals [&:][&:][&:]

Since E cars had their own sequence, it is highly unlikely that a car with a number as high as #243 would be an extreme. Not that it couldn't happen, but I doubt it. There were about 4 or 5 built in 2004 so you'd be looking at a low number.

2002 White Saleen Convertible S281 Super Charged #02-0619

Any help with the specs of this car would greatly be appreciated too. I have been told that it has 445HP for the 02 Supercharged Saleens. LMK. Thanks.

Well, first off it does NOT have 445 stock HP. It was 350 I believe for a '02 SC. Have you had it dyno'd to see what it does, because unless the bottom end of the motor has been forged then 445 is a little dangerous on the stock 4.6 2v motor IMO.

We need to know the last 3 digits of your VIN to verify if its real or not.

I don't remember my VIN right off hand but I'm pretty sure the last three digits are 388 or 338. I know it's something like that. [:D]

Hi, just joined mustangforums today. Thanks for posting this. I'm interested in a 2003 S281SC Hollywood Edition coupe. Don't care about the H.E. thing, but this car is gorgeous. I believe it's a real Saleen, but just want to make sure before I decide to buy it. :-)

Here's what I have:

VIN - 1FAFP42X33F345277
ID# - 03-0270 (270 is on bumper)
MFG date - 04/03

Not sure what console number you mean? I ckecked the VIN and it's an '03 for sure. :-) It has been repainted. There were some cracks in the hood paint near the vents, so Saleen replaced the hood and repainted it, but then it didn't match the fenders, so then they repainted the fenders and those didn't match the doors, so the entire car was repainted, under warranty.

Nada says it's worth $31k something. The seller is willing to bargain a little. He's offering it for $29k as it is. I was thinking of offering him $28k. What do you think? It's the most beautiful red I've ever seen!!! He said Saleen's paint was much better than Ford's. I haven't seen the car in person, but I'm trying to get somebody in the Orange County California area to go and look at the car for me. Any takers??? LOL I'm in Sweden until Sept 6th.

Or maybe I should just scrap it and buy an '04 Cobra? ;-)

03-270 has a last 3 VIn of 277, so that matches. It is a coupe, shipped on 4/21/03. Options were Supercharger & 13" brakes. The Saleen book does NOT show this as being a Hollywood Horsepower edition, although several cars around it were...

02-619 has a last 3 VIn of 388. It's a convertible, shipped on 5/03/02. Options were Supercharger, Chrome wheels, Light Bar, and a black convertible top. 2002's used the Series II M90 supercharger, and were factory rated at 365 HP.

Hello, I am thinking of buying a 2001 Saleen convertable but not sure if it is legit or not. I have the VIN: 1fafp45x91f209910 and would like any insight you folks may have on the subject. I.E. what to look for when inspecting this vehicle. The car is located in Canada. Where can I find the value of this vehicle. I looked at Nada.com under "sports cars" and the Saleen mustang was not available for 2001? Help, I need this info soon. thanks
