The car looks to have real parts on it. I don't have my registry on me. The issue I have is that the underhood tag is missing and the holes aren't there. The bumper number is in the wrong location. Its just off a little. The wheels are wrong. The car doesn't seem right for some reason. For the money though it would be a decent deal if it were legit. Figure on spending a few grand for a 6 speed set-up. Also the s351 supercharged emblems are missing from the rear decklid. It does however have the correct vent tubes in the trunk. With the issues I just wonder what happened to the car. I'm curious to see what the registry says. Also it has the carbon fiber option. It is missing some of the pieces. The mirriors are just a part of the kit.

i just ran into someone the other day that tried telling me his was an 03 cobra that was sent to saleen and was made into a saleen and was "signed off by steve saleen" he bs'd me lol and said it was a real saleen cobra.
Mean while, the ring around the pony was black, not chrome, the bumper had a huge gap between the bumper and the trunk lid, it had cobra seats, and no saleen vin plate under the hood by the firewall, and the number on the front bumper was too big of font
IMO....you cant BS a saleen owner! there are so many ways to tell.
Saleen stamps the car in 3 different spots, once on the frame if you want to get technical! ;) just so you know

All 99's were R-codes. It seems to be real but, with some minor mods. Didn't come factory with an automatic.
So what is this R code you speak of? There is nothing about it in the Saleen book or the registry. All S-351's for '99 are called S-351's. In the registry they are given an S code at the end of their ID number
Anyway, the car in question appears to be legit but I'd still like to know where these pics are at
Tksas - the car checks out based on the bumper number and VIN, however there were not any supercharged S-281's in '98, so that would have been added. 2000 was the first year for the S-281 SC.
It was built with the more expensive Magnesium wheels so hopefully it still has them. It also had a tire upgrade (Michelin Pilots), and a 2pt Interior Chassis Brace. It was built on 1/13/98

All supercharged S-351's are referred to as R-codes. The designation through saleen was dropped for 99 because you could no longer order a s-351 without the blower. It has just been a reference used buy most owners over the years. 96 was actually the last year anyone ordered one without the supercharger. They only offered two option packages along with offering upgrades to either one.
Hey all, I've had my car for about a year and a half and just wanted to check and see if its real and what options it came with. The car has the bumper #, firewall plaque and the dash plaque. The vin # is 1FAFP42X42F170908 Its production # is 02-0469 The car is a black on black coupe btw...
Ok i need help, i have looked on the internet and found very little i have a 5.0 mustang, im confused on a couple of things first its a saleen california edition vin # 1fabp42e3kf277669 the info on the door says it was built in 6/89, but it is a 25th anniversery, which i thought was only 90 (i know they started in 64 1/2) but the chassis has a stamp in the front, left of the right headlight that say RD then ford under it, and then 1987 uder the ford. the car is paxton supercharged (sn89), has the Racecraft suspension, 4-point Rollbar, and the ARE mesh rims. exterior is white interior is grey. it also has a Cervini cowl induction hood with "Blown 302" script in a teal color on the hood that matches the "by Steve Saleen" script under the "Racecraft Suspension 5.0" script on the front fender behind the wheel. it also has a moonroof, Saleen Rear wing (extra) and still have the gt wing. i dont know the number that should be on the front bumper cause i can't find it. Please help if any info can be found on this, need answers! thank you

On the Calif editions there is no bumper number. I'm not even sure Saleen can document them. You shoudl try contacting them to see. I know they aren't in the registry. Neither are the limited edition Saleen Sport V6 cars.
Hi everyone, i'm looking at this 1997 Saleen. The VIN # is 1FALP42X2VF121245, and the ID is 97-0023. It's also a coupe. Please lemme know if it's the real deal or not. Thanks alot. -Kevin
