Just ordered the new 281 Extreme. Anyone have any times for this vehicle? 1/4 mile, 0-60, 0-100mph? Just curious......comparing it to '04 Viper in the garage.

I'm sure there is plenty of speculation, but the car doesn't exist yet so there won't be any hard specs until they make one and test it. Last I heard they were producing some E's as we speak. Birdie was SUPPOSED to get the first '05E produced which as we all know didn't happen, so that got pushed back to '06. Did your dealer give you any insight as to when it would be built and delivered?
I'm in Indy, but would gladly come your way to do a shootout. Of course we'd have to run 3-4 times, then swap rides and do another 3-4 passes to get an accurate comparison
Dealer stated order should be delivered by end of April/early May. They've stated they have already delivered one Extreme to a custom and mine would be there 2nd one from this dealership (Raleigh, NC). Just got an email from Saleen Inc. and they said they did 1/4 mile, 0-60 testing this week and should post up the number very soon.....
I was told they will only make 100 of these 550hp models but who really knows what the demand will be (that will determine the # of units made).
My '04 Viper is stated to run 11.7's but I won't take it down the track....insurance issues. I've got a 500hp Jeep GC that I built up and has a Vortech SC on it and it runs in the higher 12's in 4wd....that's my track toy. The Saleen may see the 1/4 mile just to see what she's capable of........will keep posted on when she arrives and (hopefully) how nice she drives! My first Saleen....hope I'm not disappointed.
Would you mine telling us what an Extreme is going for. I would take an extreme over a shelby in a heartbeat, but im guessing they are quite expensive.

Interesting - that they are thinking 100 E's They haven't made 100 total in the 3 years they've done E cars. Is Birdieman holding out on us, or did he screwed out of the first E car produced as promised??
From what my dealer told me when I got my SC is that MSRP on a Coupe is around $68,300 plus transport and a $2500 Gas tax. Convert is going to be $73,100 plus transport and $2500 Gas Tax. Someone please correct me if I am wrong on this......
Figure lower to mid $70,000 range for the coupe; that's what I ordered. They won't deal very much on this limited production model (and, believe me, I tried). Was holding out for one of the Shelby GT500's but in my area its going to be an "auction price only" and I expect prices to exceed $70K in my area....for that money, I believe I'm getting more bang for the $$ with the 550HP extreme.
This will be my first Ford and my first Saleen....love my Viper and Jeep and just wanted something else with 500+hp.
Just going by what my dealer has told me....they've already delivered this vehicle to some other folks and should have mine very soon. I'm expecting this vehicle should run very close to 12 sec flat with a weight of 3,500lbs. My Jeep is pushing 4200lb and running a 318ci and hitting high 12's.

I was told around $72,000 plus taxes. Welcome to Mustang and Saleen ownership. You will have a great time melting your rear tires. Have you got your first three mods picked out already? lol

I believe your theory here to be VERY correct. Shelby obviously has a classic name, pretty impressive power, but in my opinion the looks don't touch the Saleen. And as for it being more value, I think its a no brainer. You've made the right decision in my book and I'm confident you will love the car
Oh yeah there's estimated to be 5-10,000 Shelby's coming in '07. I would think less than 30 (even though your dealer said 100) E's for '06. You tell me which will be more rare in 10, 20, 30, and 40+ years from now

Mods & upgrades on a vehicle that already comes stock from the dealer with 550hp?
Fellas, it THEY didn't get it right with all the knowledge Saleen has, how am I going to improve it? I've gotta believe that it's gonna be perfect just the way it arrives.

The modification reference was sarcastic. Try and find a Mustang that has not been modified. Fairly hard to do. I agree 550hp+ is more than enough for the street. Look around this forum, you will see others that disagree! lol

By the way, the modifications I refer to don't have to be for engine, drivetrain or suspension performance. Thats always the assumption. Chrome accents, tinted windows, upgraded stereos etc. are still mods.
I know it is hard to wait for the Saleen Extreme performance figures and as a Saleen Dealer it is even harder. I have customers call every day asking for numbers and all I can tell you is that Saleen is saying unoffically that the car is running Z06 numbers. If you read different magizines that have tested the Z06 you will see numbers all over the spectrum. 0 to 60 from 3.7 to 4.2 and 1/4 mile time from 11.70 to 12.2 sec. I guess it is what magizine you believe the most and of course there are many different conditions that effect the times.
If any one have questions, please ask. I am in touch with Saleen daily and was the 5th largest Saleen Dealer in the country for 2005. Any one feel like helping me get to the #1 spot? Love to help you out.
The Extreme is in production right now and 3 cars have been produced. They will be put on the dyno and driven by Steve Saleens. If they pass his approval, then and only then will they be released. I have 7 cars ordered, 5 are sold and the first few are expected to be to me by the the end of March or the first couple of weeks in April. As soon as I get them, I will let you know how they perform compaired to the S281SC.
