Anyone had brake squeal coming from the 14" front rotors/pads? The front brakes have squealed during the last 15-20 feet of stopping, since I drove it off the dealer's lot new? It has less than 700miles on the car and is going in for service for the second time after Saleen has warranty-replaced both front rotor/pads/caliper assemblies. Apparently they road tested it but after driving it for less that 20 miles it started squealing (rt front) again. I thought they were Brembo supplied but was told they are now using US Brakes?

Saleen are working with me but it's just inconvenient to have it in for servicing more then I have it to drive.

Steve

It may just be the type of pads that they are using. I thought /beleive Saleen is using Stop-Tech for the 05-06 14" brake kits. You may check with them and see what kind of pad is being used. Some aggressive pads on the market will give a "squeking " noise from them. Also, have you tried bedding in the pads, that may help also. Good Luck!

Thnks. You maybe correct regarding the use of Stop-Tech brakes, but my reason for posting was to determine whether there are other 05/06 owners are having the same problem. I don't know anything about Stop-Tech products but I do have experience with Wilwood, SSBC's and Baer on other cars I own, and haven't seen this problem.
The selling Saleen dealer tried saturating the pads followed by 10 high-speed heat-cycles without success. I have no idea whether these pads are ceramic, sintered-metallic, carbon-composite or whatever, other than they have been approved by Saleen engineering for this street application.
Saleen have been very helpful and supportive to correct this problem. I'm just trying to reach outside the box to see if others have seen this problem with a successful root-cause analysis, to shorten the corrective action time-frame. If not, maybe I just have an anomoly on my hands?

Thanks again for your input.

Steve

I have a 2006 Saleen SC, and the brakes have squealed from day one. I have owned other cars with similiar high performance brake systems from BREMBO and STOPTECH, and all have done the same type of minor squealing at low speeds when coming to a stop. I am no expert but I think it has something to do with the ceramic and steel combo. To my knowledge this is a normal operation of these systms. I would assume as long as you are not hearing it at high speed brake appilcation and no accompanied vibration the system is performing as advertised.

One thing Saleen reccomends is after you buy the car new, is to 'break in' the brakes. This is accomplished by doing about 20-30 hard, controlled stops. This is supposed to help prevent squeaking issues later.

Steve; Very often, squeal doesn't come from the pad-to-rotor contact area, rather it comes from the back of the pad-to-piston contact area. Ensure that you haven't cleaned the anti-seize grease from the back of the pads between the pads and pistons... Hope that this helps...

I have the exact problem described by 06SCVERT#683 in his first post. I have carefully bedded in the brakes twice, following the Saleen instructions, with no improvement to the problem. The squeal in the final 15-20 feet is more than just annoying, it is so loud it is distracting and embarassing.

06SCVERT#683, did you ever solve this problem? Anybody else with solutions or suggestions??

Yes there are others having the same problem and there is a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) addressing the concern and the proper steps to correct it including bedding the brakes which I see someone else metioned in their post. Did you take it to a dealer that carries the Saleen product? If so, they should have access to the bulletin and the proper fix. I did see that you said Saleen has been very helpful- they should be in contact with the dealer as well.

Thanks for the info! This is a really aggravating problem that I am anxious to solve.

Saleen Girl, (or anybody else), do you have the brake squeal TSB?

I don't believe my local Saleen dealer is aware of any TSB. I would love to see a copy of it, so I can understand the problem and so I can encourage/facilitate the ordering of any parts which may be necessary. Getting things from Saleen sometimes requires a long lead time.

No squeal for me (yet). Just over 1,000 miles now. I have braked hard from the beginning though too.

I have the same squeal as all go guys at the last 15-20 feet of stopping and i have a 2002 with the 13inch Brembo setup. Maybe its just performance brakes that do this???
