I'm glad it's not just me. I'm on my second set of saleen rotors and sounds like fingernails on a chalkboard when i stop.
Noise started at about 1000 miles when the car was new, and the replacement rotors only took about 20 miles to start
again. The dealer told me this was known to saleen and the replacement rotors had been redesigned to stop the noise.
I am tempted to try a non-saleen setup up front - this is taking all the fun out of driving my beautiful black monster.

Mine will squeek 1 time when I drive it and the next time it wont. Very intermittent. Kinda of embarrassing though.

I have noticed the pads do give off a lot of brake dust, I also get a slight squeel sometimes in the last few feet of stopping slowly, however when i clean the wheels using a pressure washer I get no squeel untill the brake dust has built up again

One thing Saleen reccomends is after you buy the car new, is to 'break in' the brakes. This is accomplished by doing about 20-30 hard, controlled stops. This is supposed to help prevent squeaking issues later.

+1 The recommened break-in procedure is different from manufacturer to manufacturer but it helps to Mate the pad and rotor surfaces to avoid squealing caused by glazed surfaces later on.

I do a break in on ANY brake job I do and have never had problems with squealing from mated surfaces.

Hi There, OH YES, I also am having one heck of a time with my squeal!!! It is the drivers side. Speed range is 7 to 0 miles an hour. The most annoying sound I have ever heard from a disc brake setup.... The bedding process does not work, The dealer tried it when I first bought it and now the paint has boiled at the top where the line connects.
I really didn't believe this idea would work anyway... All we are really doing here is overheating the system... I have tried this bedding in process myself three times (about $250.00 in gas, not to mention the wear and tear this causes!). Without success... It keeps comming back, and I know it only gets worse with time....
Also I noticed the edge of the pad hangs over the edge of the rotor. I have successfully (without a squeak) installed over 50 disc brake pads and rotors, and none of them are like that!
I believe we have a manufacturers defect.
Mine is a black ragtop 06 s/c 5-speed. It is a great car, but, after 2 months of SQUEAL it's getting annoying. Saleen won't even call me back anymore. I knew I was in trouble when the service manager at future ford in concord, ca. told me that brake squeal is not caused by vibration.....
My dream car is now a nightmare....

So 0815spandau, the revised rotors did not help at all? This is very discouraging as I have an appointment this week to have the revised rotors installed, and I have waited a couple of months for them to be available.

To those who are (fortunately) not experiencing this brake squeal issue, it is NOT a normal squeal issue that can be resolved by the normal tricks we've all used over the years. It is definitely a design or manufacture issue, something in the metallurgy or finish of the rotors and/or a harmonic issue when the rotors are mated with the calipers.

Anyone else have this problem, or better yet, a solution?? There will be strength in numbers, and information sharing, for this problem.

I HAD a S281SC but sold it and bought an E. I had/have no problems but my buddy's 06 S/C has a terrible brake squealing problem. It's taken forever for his dealership to get in new rotors for a complete front change-out. He recently shipped off to Iraq so I will be trying to help get the problem resolved while he's gone. Pain in the azz.

Hi Steve, I was just wondering if they replaced your original rotors with the non-slotted ones now on the 2007 models. There is an 07 extreme just like mine on e-bay that shows the rotors real well.... Mine are still squealing....Actually squealing is an understatement, more like a high pitched AIR RAID SIREN or TRAIN WHISTLE!!
Man, this is pathetic

Hi Bob, Yes, now I know this is a manufacturers DEFECT. They are now using the non-slotted rotors on the 2007 models. There is one like mine ('06) on e-bay now, black '07 rag extreme, which shows the new rotors. For the friends not having the squeal, you are lucky. I just hope you get the pads replaced before their warranty runs out....
Also, Has anyone noticed the paint on the calipers, by the line, bubbling up from the heat?
Determined to have NO SQUEALEEN
Darren

Just as an update for the OP, the front brake assy was replaced by Saleen with stock drilled rotors, and the squealing has ceased.

so since mine ar still squealing do i just go to the nearest saleen dealership and tell them to replace my brakes? is it really that easy? i live in new jersey but had my car shipped from illinois so obviously i would have to choose a dealership nearby.

Yes. If you'd like, you can call the Saleen tech line and get a list of local dealers and contact names at each dealership, then call the dealer of your choice for an appointment. They will confirm squeal problem, then send warranty paperwork to Saleen, which will in turn send new rotors. You might want to confirm rotor availability first, as sometimes they are on backorder. My car is in at a dealer right now awaiting arrival of the replacement rotors. I found an excellent dealership that has been a pleasure to work with, hope you have the same good experience.

So what was the final verdict on this issue?

Is it regular non-grooved rotors like the 07's have, or is everyone upgraded to drilled rotors?

I did some research- including calling Stoptech's tech line. They said that with these big brake systems that they recommend the floating rotors. The tech guy said that is the main reason for the squealing- the pad area is very big, and if there is any "runout" at all on the standard Saleen rigid rotor, the brakes will squeal. The floating rotor he recommends allows the rotor to move with the pad, keeping it from squealing.

I also confirmed this with Brembo and Baer- neither company offers a non floating rotor in kits over 13" in diameter.

I am upgrading my S281 to S/C status right now, and the brakes are my next upgrade. I am seriously thinking of ordering black Stoptech calipers and crossdrilled floating rotors instead of ordering the Saleen kit. I can put "SALEEN" on myself by cutting a template and painting the name on myself. Either that, or I may end up with a Baer application.

I do not want to endure the squealing problem.

unclemilti, if you are interested I can make you a killer deal on the Saleen "E" 15" brake kit. Stoptech.....2pc slotted rotors, massive 6 piston calipers and braided lines. Just an idea.

Casey
