Ok ricers its wake up time. If you have a car from the following brands and it is all "tricked out" I am talking to you. I am NOT talking to people that use a Honda or something for commuting.
Anyhow here are the brands: Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Subaru, Acura, Lexus, and Mitsubishi. Ok first of all I would like to say who in the hell came up with the crackhead idea that a 4 door commuter car could be turned into a "race car"? SORRY IT CANT!
Lets address the many ways ricers try to make such a thing happen:
1. Fart can, stick your tongue out and make a fart or "raspberry" sound with it. Sound familiar? It sounds like your car!!!! Yeah really cool man! NOT!
2. Gay bookshelf wings, ok first of all your car cant even reach the speeds at which a spoiler actually becomes functional. THEN it cant be a normal spoiler oh no it has to be a "universal" one that looks like some battle weapon off star trek. Plus half of the ones I see are pointed up, yeah thats not downforce buddy thats called lift. In case ya didnt know, thats bad.
3.Turbo/supercharger/nos, ok granted with one of these options your jap crap will probably have enough power to beat a mini-van but come on man, wouldnt you rather have something that could actually compete with real cars being driven by people other than soccer moms. Another thing that bugs me, you guys try to say that your turbocharger or nos is more modern than a n/a engine is, WRONGO, nos and turbos were both used in WWII and on many dragstrips in the 50's. Its older technology than my 32valve Dohc semi-hemi V8.
4. Kanji or Japanese lettering, yeah ok YOU CANT EVEN READ IT!!! Even if you can, nobody else can. What the flip is that all about? I can understand if you were asian or somthing but I see more white guys doin it than anybody else. Plus you are trying to infer that your car is hot or something, sorry man its just the same pos as the granny down the road drives, only she is smarter than you cuz she leaves all that crap off and drives it for what it was meant to be... A COMMUTER!!!!
5. APC (American Products Company) stickers, OMG dont get me started on this one. SCHUCKS IS NOT A PERFORMANCE STORE!!!!!! I see that crap on american cars sometimes too and the guys usually tell me " hey man its american". DUDE ARE YOU RETARDED? It's all made in china!! The chinese are trying to make it look like american stuff. Kinda like when the japanese named one of their cities usa, so they could say made in usa and people would think they meant U.S.A. Dont fall for that crap come on!
6. Body kits, oh yeah this is great. "hey man I just got this sweet body kit for my lancer man, makes it look intense dog." First off it doesnt look sweet it looks ridiculous and most of them do. Then to top off the ridiculous looks the guy never knows how to put it on and cant afford to have it done cuz he blew his whole months wages on a $300 body kit. Then he runs down to the hardware store and gets some gutter gaurd for his "wicked sick intake screen man". So he puts it on, it's fine in the parking lot, I guess, the spray can was close to the same color, it's not too crooked, it only rubs on the passenger door, but then we hit 50 and the thing looks like it's tryin to flap its wings and take off. NOT COOL, plus nobody is fooled, they are all like whoa look at that wierd lancer. That looks like its gonna fall apart. You think people are admiring it, when actually they are thinkin, what a piece of crap.
7. Clear tailights, all I can say is they look like something off of a kids toy from walmart. The factory ones look more expensive, sounds like a downgrade to me not an upgrade. Waste of money!
8. The infamous 100hp cold air intake off ebay, sorry guys the cold air intake that you bought off ebay probably actually lessened your horsepower, if it did increase it's by no more than 5 hp I guarantee it. Quit runnin your mouths saying that you got a cai off ebay and it added like 50hp, BS! nobody believes you anyway they just laugh when you walk away.
9.They say they are lighter, I have heard guys say their car weighs under a 1000lbs, and so they could kick my butt even though they only have a 4cyl. First off, if we were talking apples to apples my car would weigh 1000lbs too and would BLOW YOUR DOORS OFF. Plus there is no car, especially not a honda, that weighs under 1000lbs, try more like 2500lbs minimum. Dude your engine weighs about 400lbs, not even counting the transmission, the whole flippin car, tires, wheels, suspension, well you get the point, anybody who says that has been smokin somethin. Oh one other thing, taking the spare tire out does NOT "drop like 100lbs" Think about that idiot, if it doesnt weigh 100lbs, it doesnt "drop 100lbs" from your car, simple math really!
10. Front wheel drive, so many mislead people think fwd is better. You have been fed a line people!!! It is much cheaper for the manufacterer to make, its not better. Ever notice all the high end cars even from japan are rwd, gee I wonder why? Maybe its cuz its better, Oh you think?! Ever heard of a little thing called weight transfer? Well that basically means that fwd car going forward makes the weight transfer to the back tires which are basically just followers. Guys brag about bein able to do a burnout in their fwd car, SO....you have small tires to begin with, and its fwd, all the weight transfers to the tires that are just sitting there looking stupid. Yeah Im impressed!
11. Blingin rims, few things make me laugh more than to see an accord with 20's on it. Omg, what did they do, glue a strip of rubber to the rim? That just makes for a crappy ride and a ridiculous looking car. Sounds like something I wanna do.
12.Lowering, lowering can be cool, but not 3"-4"!!!!! The thing bounces down the road and people laugh when you go by. You drag on the curbs and the driveways and speed bumps, thus messing up your already stupid looking body kit. The wheels usually stick in on the top cuz it wasnt done right, yeah that helps handling...NOT.
Well thats about it folks, there is more that I am just not gonna go into like painted black hoods, and neon, and light up shift knobs all gay, GAY GAY GAY.
If you have found things in this article that fit your car, please change them and make the world a nicer place to drive around in. Your tuner offends me. If you are a commuter that uses a japanese car for commuting and leaves it pretty much stock and doesnt go around runnin your mouth about beating people with 3 times the hp you have, then you are totally fine and do not need to do anything to your cars. upward pointing spoilers dont cause lift...... its the shape of a wing is up... THEN down again, which forces air over the top of it to move faster (same reason u get wind in mountains) If you point the spoiler up(since spoilers have a flat shape), it acts just like a rudder only horizontally, You get downforce, but no real reason to need alot of downforce on the rear wheels on a front wheel car (I htink thats a more valid argument)

i think the point is, that the above was a joke....not meant to be taken too seriously. a buddy of mine has a pretty sick eclipse, and there's no way i'm beating him in a race any time soon. i give props where props are due, but there really are TOO MANY messed up ricers out there, that i just LAUGH at when they drive by....especially when they think they are the most awesome car on the road....

As a turbomachinery engineer / fluid dynamicist I can assure you that if the air moves over the top of the wing at a higher velocity than over the bottom of the wing, you will get lift - not downforce. This is consistent with the Bernoulli equation and explains why airplanes fly.

not with a flat car wing. its the over all shape of the wing that gives lift. I will say again, as a 3rd year physics major (when you really only need into to get this) that a flat wing will act as a rudder, because the negative airspace formed behind the wing (as in car wing) will negate any lift whatsoever. It then acts like a rudder, this is why the top fuel cars, nascars and any other kind of cars that have more money into the research than you will ever see point their wings up.
for anyone who doesnt understand physics, just imagine a top fuel car trapping at 300+. it takes a cesna only about 100 mhp to acheive enough lift to take off. I think its even lower than that depending on a few environmental variables. At 300, if the car wing made any lift at all or even just didnt make downforce, it would take off and front flip. But for some mystical reason the rear of the car stays pretty firmly planted. That is because the 6 foot UPWARD pointing wing creates a sh*t ton of downfroce. same thing with the new Bugati, which has an upward pointing mechanical wing that extends after 120 or something like that. It creats downforce equal to at least twice the cars weight according to the last C&D article about it, and it isnt even point up that far.
