I'd like to put a new 289 in my 68 coupe but I can't seem to find a 289 or 302 block. The only ones I can seem to find are across the country or high performance block costing thousands. I'm in Oregon and was thinking of going with S & S Engine Remanufacturers out of Renton Wash. I can get a stock 289, but I have to use my pan and intake manifold, for about $1400. Also is it possible to pull the engine and tranny together without pulling off the entire grill crossmember? Any advice appreciated. THANKS

Crate engines are OK, but they cost a lot of money for a good reason. Most of the high dollar engines have a ton of mods to increase the horsepower a lot. If you are just wanting a stock rebuild of the 289, then the 1400 is about right. Yes, you can pull the engine and tranny as one unit.

i live in the portland area and if you look in the phone book or the nickle adds. you can find about 30 places for a rebuilt motor or to have your motor rebuilt. try baxter's auto parts.
