I've heard quite a bit from both sides of the driving world. I've heard reasons from manual tranny enthusiasts, and from automatic tranny enthusiasts as well. I've come to the conclusion that the major decision to be made when choosing manual or automatic transmission, comes down to whether or not the person drives in traffic often, and whether or not the person enjoys driving.</P>

From a speed perspective, i've been thinking a lot about the loss in boost when shifting gears, whereas that loss is minimized with an automatic tranny...what do you all think?</P>

Depends if you know how to drive, i just started stick so im still a little rusty, but i know in the end almost everyone says stick rules over auto, if you ever want to drag or just show off your driving skills you dont want an auto, i personally stay away from autos b/c stick looks more fun than auto, alot of people say that stick is more fun. you dont lose a "boost" if you're a good shifter and even autos you can feel the tranny shifting.... just my $.02 <edited><editID>Zcpeanut</editID><editDate>37804.6046064815</editDate></edited>

Loss of boost? Get a blow off valve. Don't want the sound? Get a by-pass valve.

Give no traction problems, the same 2 cars (same power curves, weight, gear ratios, ect.), with 2 equally skilled drivers and the only difference being a stick vs. auto, the manual will win.

Less parasitic drag on the motor.

Hmm...how is there less parasitic drag with the manual transmission?</P>

theres more moving parts in an auto. ive taken apart sticks before quite often and i was shocked the first time i looked in an auto.
