I have been told theat the 39lb injectors for a 2006 SC are maxed out. I have also been told that Saleen has recognized this and is putting larger 42lb injectors in their cars now. Can anyone tell me what size the 06 comes with and can you get the larger size installed without voiding the warranty?
I sent an e-mail to Saleen about the injectors. Here is the response:
The stock fuel injectors on the 05/06 Mustang are 19 lb/hr injectors. We have found that these injectors are sufficient to handle up to around 450 horsepower. Therefore, we are upgrading the injectors on our Extreme car but not the supercharged car (your car has stock 19 lb/hr injectors). 42 lb/hr injectors will void your warranty as the car is not tuned to handle them.
19lb injectors? 19lb injectors can comfortably support about 200hp. For 435 hp you need 42lb injectors. 39 will work but it will be over 80% duty cycle.
This guy obviously has stated the wrong injector size or does nto know what he is talking about.
Can anyone shed some light on this subject of what the injector size is for the 05/06?
I do not know any more. We have had 19lb injectors on over 1000 supercharged cars from our factory and many aftermarket cars as well and have had no problems with the fuel injectors not being able to deliver enough fuel.
Its nice to know that 39's were on the Cobra's rated at 390 hp and according to Saleen 19's on a 435 hp vehicle. Am I missing something?
19lb injectors will support 203 hp at 80% duty cycle. 24lbs will support 256. 39lb which are stock on the 390 hp Cobra Support 416.
If you starve the motor for fuel as the injectors don't supply enough, you do cost power. I am not sure if you will cause long term damage to the motor as well. If so, it most likely will occur after warranty (most Saleens are not driven daily) and we will pay the costs.
If it causes long term damage I may want to change it now(after break in), tune it myself so that I get long term reliability and screw the warranty. I am not conerned with the power at this point, just getting what we paid a premium for.
With the stock 24lb injectors, the car runs lean in the upper RPM's. Saleen's stance is that it shouldn't be a problem, everybody else feels it isn't very safe, hence everybody upgrading to 39lb injectors to have control over the A/F ratio. I'm running 12:1 A/F across the whole powerband with 39#, while stock Saleen SC's are getting up to 13.5:1 and climbing at 5500rpms.
Maybe the guy you talked to is thinking of the older Mustangs that did have 19lb injectors.
