i just tried waxing my car. i washed the car with meguiars car wash then waxed it with meguiars NXT Generation Tech Wax. i didnt really see much of an improvement. i didnt wash my car with dawn soap cuz i didnt want to take off my existing wax cuz this was my first time waxing my car. what did i do wrong? i would aply it and make a think coat and let it sit for a little while i did another panel and came back and wiped it off. also if i get a clay bar could i hurt my paint if i did it wrong? srry im kind of a newb at waxing cars but it seems to be soo simple for others and i jsut cant seem to get it

unless your paint is really bad off then you wont see much of a difference after just a wax. with an 04 the paint cant be in very bad condition. you will probably be able to tell that the car beads water much better the next time you wash it. you can clay bar it and it will be much smoother than before and will probably make the paint shine a lil bit more. but you cant expect too much visual change when waxing a pretty new paint job, just a lil better water bead.

im gonna try to clay bar it cuz my paint is kinda ruff. i am the second owner and the car only has 6k miles on it but it used to sit out in the dead of winter with salt all over it, but now it is in a garage. i have an electric buffer/polisher. ill see if that would make a difference in applying the wax. maybe ill try to polish it before i wax it. any tips are welcome

autopia.com and autogeek.net

I found these two sites posted somewhere on this forum. And I check them out all the time.

Amazing sites and info.
You must clean the paint, polish the paint, then seal the paint. A great 4th step is yellow wax after these steps.
The more I learn from this site and the ones above the better my car looks, runs and drives.
mustangforums is cool!
