We had an unfortunate accident in a neighboring town a few days ago where a couple of young guys (23 year olds) decided to have a race through a residential area, one of them hit a girl on a bicycle, and now she's in the hospital and they're both in jail.

Along most of the road there are walls between the houses and the roadway, and there is a center island dividing the northbound lanes from the southbound lanes. The speed limit is 35 mph. It looks like an excellent place for an informal drag race, except that there are occasionally kids crossing the road. Especially at 2:30 in the afternoon, when this one happened.

If you're going to race, make sure you're on an appropriate road where you can't hurt others.

Anybody that races where little kids could jump out in front of you deserves to go to jail. I'm glad to hear that the little girl is still alive. Is she paralized or anything like that or will she make a complete recovery?

that is VERY true,, but,, you have to consider that most people will never make it to the track
im not CONDONING street racing at all,
i know its wrong and almost nothing but bad can happen

however, it would be bad to just ignore it and say never do it at all

you have to accept that it IS going to happen, and that some places are safer than others
one place that is not safe seems to be in a residentail zone. morons.....

but if youre out on a wide country road with no hills, or on an empty stip of highway... at least then youre only endangering yourself and the other racer instead of innocent families
