Okay, i know that gears are for performance, but where are they located in a car, and what gears would you want to put on a 67-68 stang w/ like 450hp? i know some about cars but i know like nothing about gears. *HELP*

Your gears are located in the center of the rearend of your car. as for what gears to go with, you need to know cam size, tire size, auto or manual trans, rpm range. don't let anyone just spew out a gear ratio to you. i have seen alot of poor advice on this site.

The gears themselves only cost about 200 bucks.  Then you need to buy bearings and a clutch pak kit.  Unless you really know what you're doing i'd recommend having someone do it for you.  To have someone else do it you're looking at around 600 bucks.  PULN AWAY is right.  There are a lot of things that you need to look at before you decide what gears to go with.  You want to be in your powerband when you finish the quarter mile.  If you're not going to drag race it, I'd say that 3.55's or 3.73's are good all around gear ratio's.

Gears are in the rear end of your car.  They turn the rotation of the driveshaft into the rotation of the wheels.  Your rear end is made up of a pinion gear which turns a ring gear that is mounted on a differential.  The differential is what turns the axles that turn your rear wheels.  The differential allows one wheel to turn faster than the other which allows your car to take corners.  If one wheel didn't turn faster than the other in a corner then the rear of your car would hop.

cool, thanks guys, ya cause im 16 and im gonna get a stang project, and my parents will give my 3k if i can show them how much things cost and how much they would cost to install etc.  im going to get a 350/428hp chevy  (chevy crate engines are less expensive for the bang) and a bowtie tranny too to go with the engine (ive heard really good things about this one tranny company and although they're not announced chevy, they are "bowtie" transmissions) im going to make the bodywork myself, and im getting this front http://www.mustangsplus.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=MPFMP&Product_Code=rmodel_bump&Category_Code=fib_apron and im putting some PIAA lights in the mass air flow rectangle
