I have a Mach 460 in my GT and I recently just purchased a CD player from a normal mustang, and i was told that it wont work with my 460. I was wondering if there is any way to get this to work, or if I will have to go out and purchase a whole new CD player.

Yeah U can put an aftermarket radio in there, but u have to bypass the 460 amps but then the speakers will sound like crap. Ur better off also replace all the speakers. U can also wire the new deck with the 460 system, but that will get u no volume control at all.

this is a problem with ford mach 460s... they designed the system to not be upgradable... you need to bypass the mach 460 amps and put aftermarket speakers along with your new headunit. Otherwise you will not like the sound as it will sound worse than your mach 460 stock.

i don't know what you guys are talking about. i have a 96 gt with the mach 460 option. it came with just a tape deck. i don't know. i didn't buy it brand new so i'm not sure if the previous owner had a cd player in it. otherwise, i had an aftermarket cd player along with a sub and amp put in without any problems.
Personally I think that it is actually better to bypass the Mach 460 system and then just go to your local audio store and buy some mid grade speakers. They usually run about $60 for two of them and are not hard to install. I removed all stock speakers and amps and went with a Sony deck (which allows you to control how much bass goes to the speakers with a high pass crossover), Pioneer speakers (available at Wal-Mart) and also a rockford-fosgate amp with two 12" MTX 6000s. The car definately puts out a nice bang for about $1000. All in all though you will definately want to go with an aftermarket system, it really does make a difference.

i think he will be fine just installing the head unit. i believe in 2000 you couldnt just change the head unit. you would have to change the whole system for it to work. im not completley possitive but i think you should be ok. just do a little more research by contacting ford before you buy anything. let us know how every thing works out.
Yes Im sure I have a mach 460. It HAS a cd player, but it doesnt play right..It was take them, make a clicking noise, and then spit them back out. So i need a new one i think..unless there is a way to fix it? Its a 95..

you dont actally need to bypass amps, just wire in the remote off the amp to the remote on your car. and my 95 came tape deck also

just buy a mach 460 head unit, i went through weeks of torture tryin to install subs, when i finally realized all i needed was one dumb part. by stock radio, if u want subs you dont need an aftermarket one.
and k8ieGT, are u tryin to play burnt cds? i find it real hard to play certain discs, my mix cds wont play in my deck unless they are TYC brand, and i think PNY Technologies makes blank cds that Mach 460 head unit likes. but mine does that too, it clicks and spits burnt cds out, not of those brands. i also get problems when its real cold inside the car, the disc wont play right away. but i think im better off waitng for a minute than re-wireing all the stock speakers, or gettin new ones.
I am new but I have done some searching and sdiscovered a website that sells some type of converter for about 60 bucks. You can add an amp or add a new head unit. Its a cool site. Very helpful http://www.mustangaudiosystems.com/MustangAudio_page2.htm

I would stay away from those 10" sub encosures they are selling though...they are too small for the 10" (the 10" will fit but there isn't enough air in the box for the speaker to really perform.
