i'm fixing to order a cam and have a few ?'s. should u get new springs and lifters if u get a new cam? and what kind of cam(brand) would everyone recommend?

i would say if you had good set of heads to get the e-303 or the f-303, but if your running nos, you might wanna talk to lloyd about that.

Doug, from what I understand if you have roller lifters you dont need to replace them with a cam change. I always do because I like to be careful. When running on the juice I always had good luck with the E-303. I also know alot of guys that shot their cars with a B-303 and they loved it. I like the FRPP cams myself.

i was thinking of going w/ the F cam. i want my car to sound MEAN when just idling or when driving. i want to make my stock motor preform better, but also have the cam i'll need when i get heads. what do u think about the f cam and lifting combo from comp cams and then a valve spring kit?

lloydchristmas -> fixing to order a cam (3/11/2003 6:41:58 PM)

I had an E cam in my car and it sounded NASTY!!!! Lumpy as hell. Worked great with the nitrous too!!!

E cam lumpy and nasty??? that's what i want to hear... casue that is excatly the cam i want.... to go with my new heads that is....

did the e303 make your car run better when u weren't juicing at the time?

DougBlevins -> fixing to order a cam (3/12/2003 12:47:40 PM)

i had my engine rebuilt and don't have 5,000 miles on the rebuild yet, would i still need to do new valve springs and lifters when installing the new cam (probably the E303)

lloyd, how much hp do u think the e-cam gave you? (Was it the same amount as gears, LOL) what was your set up?

DougBlevins -> fixing to order a cam (3/18/2003 3:41:14 PM)

is the f303 ok for a stock 5.0 engine? i was gonna go w/ the e303 but would like to go w/ the f cam if i could. what do ya'll think??

thanks

lloydchristmas -> fixing to order a cam (3/18/2003 4:08:33 PM)

I never dynoed it after the cam was in. Thanks to the NOS explosion. (which was WAY cool by the way) But you definitely heard and felt a difference. It was a nasty cam. Check to see if the F has any piston to valve clearance problems. I dont think it does but im not 100% sure. Good luck with whichever you chose Doug.

spike306 -> fixing to order a cam (3/20/2003 9:06:14 PM)

the e-cam is a mean ass cam, but if your going to use it on a motor w/ stock heads and nos, i would recomend the f-cam. also, i'm pretty sure that lloyd's right on the piston to valve clearance.

good luck with all that

DougBlevins -> fixing to order a cam (3/21/2003 12:44:52 PM)

the f cam has like a 512 lift. so what do ya'll think that will b a problem? ya'll r really making me want that f cam now.

lloydchristmas -> fixing to order a cam (3/21/2003 7:04:09 PM)

Call a Ford Motorsport dealer they will tell you if it will clear.

spike306 -> fixing to order a cam (3/22/2003 4:27:17 PM)

agreed!!!!

DougBlevins -> fixing to order a cam (3/24/2003 1:45:09 PM)

new springs r a must when u put in a new cam; but do i really need to put in new lifters? (on a '90 5.0 with 190,000 original miles, but less than 5k miles after engine rebuild)

lloydchristmas -> fixing to order a cam (3/24/2003 7:35:20 PM)

It cant hurt. Better than having to take the motor apart again Right?
