I am just wondering what i should do with my 66 mustang. i wanna build something different but something bad ass and well my 66 mustang is kind of my project car. The issue starts here---> i found a wrecked 99-2002 svt cobra that is just lying around with a good engine and probably a good transmission. I am i insane or would it be a nice combination to try and do an engine swap for the cobra engine. any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. also what other stuff would i need to make this happen or should i just stick to my old 289 engine and try to do something with it? Wouldn't that be a mod engine? If so, you'd be pretty crazy, because it'd take alot of work to get it to fit in the small engine compartment, at least i think so.

the engine compartment looks really big, i think i could fit the svt engine last i looked at it but i really don't remember. in the case that i do get the engine in there where would i go from there?
i think it would be a lot of work. ive seen the 4.6L cobra motor on an engine stand and it seems very wide compared to the windsor motors. just take a bunch of measurements and see what you get. you can always modify the shock towers etc.

how much work is involved in modifying the shock towers? and what kind of equipment would i need? hey i heard of mating the 351 cleveland heads in the 289, any info?
You arent gonna get a 4.6 DOHC engine into a 66 without alot of cutting.. Best idea for that would be a full tube frame. Why bother since you can make decent power alot more easily and cheaply? Sure its different, but a PITA! The 4.6L is the widest engine Ford ever made for passenger cars. A 351C is a very tight fit in a 66, it can be done but plug changes are a real treat. If you can get the Cobra engine cheap, pick up a fox or SN95 and put it in there. Fits ALOT better. They are a bit too wimpy power wise for a 70-73 IMO.. Too heavy of a car, but they would fit with a little work.
You can bolt the Cleveland heads to any Windsor engine. Bolt pattern is the same, bore spacing the same, slight differences in water passages. Pistons are different, the Cleveland has canted valves like a big block Chevy or 460 Ford. So the valve reliefs in the pistons need to be different. They are on the outside edge of the pistons. Windosrs have them right down the middle of the piston, line up so to speak. Clevelands are roughly one pointing \ and the other pointing /.. The BOSS 302 had Cleveland style heads on a 302, made for great breathing above 6000rpm. You can install 351 2V heads with much smaller ports on a 289/302 block but you will need a BOSS style intake. You will also need BOSS style headers for it. Search around a bit on here for CLEVOR and also do a google search on them. Its not a bad engine, just costs a little more to build than a 289/301/351W. I would build one on the 351W if it were my choice, since I have 3 extra sets of Cleveland heads..lol
