2005 Exhaust Rattles & Warped Headrests - READ HERE FIRST!
Regarding 2005 S-281, S-281 SC and Convertibles....exhaust rattles, as well as fixes for the famous warped headrest inserts.
1) If you have an '05 with rattling valves near the mufflers, you have two options. You can file a warranty claim and get a replacement 2006 Exhaust setup, which is the same sans valves. Or you spend 5-10 minutes tops under your car and bypass them yourself. Yes it is safe, no it will not void your warranty, no it will not have any impact on performance
2) If you have an '05 with the severe warpage in the headrest inserts, again very simple fix. Either way you need to visit a dealer to file a warranty claim. You can have them order the parts and fix it for you if you don't like to do your own stuff, or you can have them order the parts for you and DIY in less than 30 minutes

^^ [sm=icon_rofl.gif] ^^ I'm assuming you're talking about SCOA region size? If so, factor in the population quotient and the Central would be winning by far [8D] Plus we have an honorary member with 13 Saleens in Indiana so that has to help me out

Once again, a plea for the Mods to sticky this - would be so much easier than digging it up everytime I need to help out a fellow '05 Saleen brother (or sister )

That is true, but if you read the entire post, including links you will see that the bypass is warranty safe, much easier and A LOT less hassle than dealing with a dealer & warranty claims. To each his own but I don't want the valves, thus would never want a new set of mufflers just for a newer/better valve. IMO exhaust on cars like these is meant to be heard - the heck with closing off the turn down tips to quiet it down a tad [:'(]
Ok, I have car #105 (2005) i.e., 13 units after sowaxeman's s281 which obviously had the exhaust with the "infamous" valves. I would thus believe I had the valves too, although I haven't heard of any rattle.
But, I can not find any vacuum line or similar connected to the mufflers which lead me to firmly believe I have the later version of the exhaust (without the valves). But I'd appreciate if anyone confirmed so because I'm a n00b.
Seethe 2pics from my car.
If this is true, could it be so that the change in the production occurred in between unit #92 and 105 for the 2005 model?
(I'm 99.9% sure the previous owner did not replace them as he carefully described everything what had been done to the car, which was basically only the standard oil change/service)
