you can manually push it back with a flathead screwdriver, i was curious and took one mile off of mine and put it back on, but if you dont plan on selling your car then i dont see the need to turn it back unless your putting a new engine in
So let's look at all of this together in one spot:
Turning back odometer = illegal
Filing a false insurance claim = illegal
Selling a car with inaccurate speedo (and not disclosing it) = illegal
Even if you drop in a new motor, the car still has XXX amount of milage on it, and legally must remain documented on the odometer.
Not worth going to jail over. And good luck getting a job after being released from serving time for felony fraud. I'm sure that will look great on the job application.

I know on 98 and older Mustangs they have the dial odometers, so I was wondering what I would have to go about doing to reset or turn back my digital odometer? Any tips/procedures would be greatly appreciated.
Umm..yeah...insurance fraud and just plain fraud come to mind. Not to mention if someone ran a Carfax on the car they would easily see what's recorded there and what's on the ODO don't match which could actually make it so 1 insurance would completely cut you off from any type of payout and 2 anyone with half a brain woudl either negotiate you down below what it may have actually been worth if you left well enough alone.

there isnt a way to do it..not that i know of at least. probably replacing the ecu and cluster. i will go ahead and say...like everyone else has, its a bad idea.
Oh I also looked into this in my home province of Saskatchewan, Canada. This is illegal unless you tell the person that is buying or the insurance company that you have changed the odometers reading. Since I dont plan on selling my car this is not considered illegal.

^ and an insurance company is supposed to take your word for it that you took off lets say 5000 km when you really took off 10000 km? i dont think itd work and i dont see why you want to do it, its just a number even if you turn it to 0 your car and engine have the same miles on it
I just want to knock the odometer 100,000 kms or so, just in case I total my car or sell it. You know get more money than its actually worth. - Since I dont plan on selling my car this is not considered illegal.
So which is it?
