Oil changes
Im sure you guys will get a kick out of this - and I deserve it.
After 27+ years of paying someone else to do oil changes I'm finally going to start doing it myself. I got the time and interest now plus, @ $30 each x 4 cars it really is adding up! Dad gave me stands and pan for Christmas, I already had ramps. Upon doing research for each car, it seems each has it's own specifics; gaskets, etc. so I'm trying to line-up everything and gather all info before I dive in.
So far, for an 07 GT I know I need 6 qts of 5w-20 and filter. Car has under 2k miles and has had one conventional oil change since new. I want to switch over to synth; and initially am thinking Pennz Platinum. For the filter, K&N. Feel free to recommend or criticize my choices.
Anything else I should have? Any things to look for? Any advice? Thanks.

Unless your car sees track time, follow the manual. My manual reads 7,500 between changes (I assume yours is close to that). If you really want to know, have an oil analysis done and you have a definitive answer. Countless independent studies have proven that (even under abuse) oil changed more frequently than 8K had no (as in zero measurable) difference in motor wear or serviceability.
Show me someone that states you need oil changes more than every 5,000 miles...and I will show you someone trying to sell you an oil change!
Dino oil in nearly all circumstances is good for 7-8K miles easy. Full syn will take you out past 10-12K.
Ironically in Europe where they dont have "quicky lubes" their change interval is generally an annual occurrence...12-15K miles.

I only have 2300 miles on my 07, and I have already changed my oil twice. I do it every Jan 1st. It only costs about $30 bucks for the Mobil 1 oil and filter, so why not. My stang has never been on a lift, jackstands, ramps, or anything else since I bought it new. All I do is open the hood, slide a pan under the filter, remove and replace the filter, from underneath the hood. I then slide the pan under the drain plug, and get a 2 ft 3/8 extension and a swivel socket and lay down on the drivers side and remove the drain plug, drain oil, and replace the plug. There is no need to jack or ramp your car. It just that simple. Try it.
