Yep, that is exactly how my dad was with me. He bought me a red firehawk convertible, and basically told me if i screw up once its gone. I never even got a ticket in the car, except for a cop gave me a ticket for too loud of an exhaust one time and my dad didnt mind that.

I probably wouldn't buy my kid anything but a used FWD car. And he would have to pay for the insurance and gasoline. IMO it builds character and appreciation for nicer things when a person has to earn them his or her self. Just my 2c.. And yes to some of us a Mustang is probably about as nice a car as we will ever have.

JMatt if I were you I'd pick up the CAI/Tune from brenspeed first. After that gears and maybe some nicer tires out back with a set of LCA. Next up would be pulleys and delete plates. Between all of that you should have a very nice boost in power that should be easily noticeable.

Say whatever you want, but to me you are being foolish to give a teenager a car like that. I'm sure these stupid kids parents never thought they would try and max out this car.

I'm sure your son will never try to hit 150mph in that mustang. It'd be interesting to see if the idiots above would still be alive had they had 100hp. Of course when you know your car is dog slow, then you are less likely to prove it to everyone.

I bet the parents of that 8 year old kid were big gun nuts and he was raised around all sorts of guns. He's still dead though.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. But many would appreciate it if you left preaching to preachers.

Exactly my thoughts, if you think he can be responsible and not go racing around fast corners because his friends are peer pressuring him or trying to impress his friends then i dont see the difference in 100hp car or a 300hp car, its all how the driver handles it. I guess the real question, is a 16 year old going to be responsible with the extra power starting out at 300hp... and i dont see why not if they are responsible, thats what i started with and im still doing okay!
The difference is 200hp and 3 times quicker to get you into trouble. I feel like i'm taking crazy pills!!!!

I'd have a couple million dollars worth of auto insurance if I were ya'll. Hulk Hogan probably thought Nick was very responsible!!!!LOL!!!!!! You people are nutz and any kid behind the wheel of a 300hp car is 3 times more likely to kill himself or someone else, than if it were a 100hp car.

Hey dudes, you want to see how fast we can get my 100hp car. LOL! Never has such a statement been made. I never even considered going fast in my chevy spectrum. I don't think it even had 100hp.

Back on topic. What were we talking about?

My father bought me really fast dirt bikes, off-road vehicles and go-carts when I was young.. all to my mother's chagrin. She HATED it. Many broken bones later I learned to respect speed.. sooner rather than later. I've driven all my cars pretty reasonably because of that.

When you put a kid THAT HAS NO RESPECT FOR SPEED in a fast car (i.e. BMW) it's going to be a disaster. I bet those kids never learned how to respect speed on a dirt bike or off-road vehice when they were younger...

I heard about those kids in the beemer moose.. they traveled like 100 yards in the air or somthing!! crazy..

But depending on your viewpoint, it's an econo car with average power and limited features. I can't believe I actually have to turn on and off my own headlights and windshield wipers. And don't even get me started on trying to set the interior temperature correctly without fiddling with dials. (Insert smilie face and LOL here).

.
Nice subtle crack on Mustang buying population..that is sure to make you friends in a hurry....

anyways...MY gt500 is going to be given to my son....HOWEVER...it will not be his FIRST vehicle...
My first vehicle was a 1970 ss camaro with a pretty built block...I was stupid and had it taken away after my 2nd speeding ticket within 8 months. I am glad my dad took it away as I (SPEAKING FOR MYSELF) was not mature enough to handle the power etc. but I flash forward 24+ years..and question, am I mature enough to own the power I have now?? hmm..that is a great question and I probably could not answer it honestly....LOL...anyways..my point (I do have one) is that I dont think you can truly state that someone 16 is definitely less or more responsible than one of us...how many here can say they never speed on a road? never play with another car on a street....what gives us older folks the right to say we are more responsible when in reality we probably are not...now we are more experienced for sure...so I am sure JMatt is a responsible dad who as he stated would take his car away from his son if his son is screwing around at all...now having that power will be awfully tempting for anyone, and for the record JMATT...300HP is not an econo car...no its not a VETTE or 500++ HP gt500....but do you think that a 16 year old young man who is constantly tempted everyday by drugs, drinking, sex, and now being an owner of a percieved performance vehicle will not be tempted or pressured into a bad situation? I dont think he will be worried by having to turn on or off his own headlights or wipers....I dont think some other teenager is going to say DUDE YOUR CAR SUCKS BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO TURN ON YOUR HEADLIGHTS? no they will probably say something like..how fast you've been?? and can it beat my _____ (fill in blank) good luck and I sincerely hope it works out....and I am sure you are a great father with great intentions...but you cant expect everyone to drink from that same kool aid
