Default WHAT A RIPOFF FOR A GEAR INSTALL $467?!

Ok so i called about 4 different places to install 4.10's. The one dealership i called wanted 467$ for labor and parts i was like WTF! I don't think the guy knew what i was talking about. Another ford dealership wanted $367 again instant reaction of WTF! Then a speed shop i called said the guy who did mustang gear swaps left so no go on that one. Finally the last shop wanted $275 plus tax. The guy said he would need the gears plus the install kit. Idk what to do. so all together with the last shop i would be pushing 600 bucks for gears and install. Anyone in upstate NY know any good places? Or feel free to comment on how much crack the dealerships are smoking. thanks!

Well parts alone are going to cost you damn near 300$ (gears, install kit, fluid)

So 467$ parts and installed is a deal dude. I usually charge 150$ to install around here.. And thats if YOU bring all the parts..

Never take your car to a dealership for any work other then warranty work. They are a rip off.

$250 is about normal for gear install plus the gears and install kit.

I know this topic has been beat to death, But lets see FRPP 4.10s are like 160$, install kits run like 75$, and fluid is like 30$, thats roughly 265$ for just parts... Lets add your 250$ for labor, thats ~$515... The dealer quoted him 467$ WITH parts according to his post. You show me the rip-off???

Yeah I'm $250 out the door with FRPP 4.10's, FRPP install kit, and fluid. I was quoted as high as $400 and as low as $250 for labor. Don't forget you'll either need a tune to change your computer to accept 4.10's, or a speed cal gear.

If you're really a risk taker you can buy a brand new 8.8 ford racing tlock that accepts 31 spline axles with carbon fiber clutch packs, and 31 spline axles for about what you'll pay for the labor to have just the gears installed.

So if you tackle it yourself, you can upgrade your entire rear end for the same price you would pay to have just the gears installed. Well almost the same...
