Cool Passenger Side Water Leak (inside the cabin )

I was seating in my parked GT'06 vert yesterday, right when the Hanna was passing over. ( for those not living on this coast - that was the storm here, with a lot of heavy rain and wind). The rain was very heavy, and I decided to park in a different spot, closer to the entrance. As I started moving the car I heard/saw the water leaking heavily onto the passenger side floor mat. I went under there and looked where its coming from, and it was coming right from the box that is next to the fan, the box that look sort of like an air filter housing. There is an orange wire there on the housing and the water was leaking around it like from a hose, about 2 quarts alltogether... I guess it happened because the car tilted slightly differently when I reparked it. But I am sure it is not supposed to happen like that. Any help?

You, more than likely, have a clogged cowl drain. Very common problem. The clogged drain won't allow the water to drain and it backs up through the cabin filter and flows (literally!) into the passenger compartment. Remove the passenger side of the cowl cover (the little push pins holding it down need to be removed....do a search for Cabin Filter replacement) first. After the cover is removed, you will see the cabin filter mounted against the firewall. That is where the water enters the cabin. If there is any debris, leaves, pine needles, etc, in the cowl "tub" remove them first. Then, clean out the drain. It is located under the cowl on the passenger side....a little rubber boot, if you will. I used a small wooden dowel to clean mine out. Run some water from a garden hose to completely flush out any remaining debris. Because of the many trees on my property, I have to check my cowl drain at least once a month in the fall. Hope this helps.

OK, it was REAL EASY to fix. I read the instructions about the cabin air filter, went outside and took it out. The rubber drain part was completely blocked with all sort of crap, but was really easy to get out and clean. The air filter was quite dirty too. This was the easiest thing to do after all.

Instructions:

Turn the ignition on and use the wiper lever to position the windshield wipers in a straight high vertical position. Turn off the ignition. Open the hood, use the + screwdriver to remove the fasteners holding the plastic cover ( passenger side only, part that touches the windshield ) - it slides towards the front of the car under the hood and towards the drivers side. Under there there is a filter, and after you take it off you see the oval elongated rubber drain part. Use your right hand and pull it out from under, putting your hand between the engine cover and the battery. Clean it and put it back from above, through the space where the filter was. Easy! No more leaks!!!

If it wasn't that then I'd say that you need to read the Water Leak TSB.

Mine was outside , under it's cover during what was Hanna passing over.....The cover actually stayed put even though it was pretty blustery.
I think we all are lucky that the storm was not as bad as the media predicted it would be, at least in the NJ area.

Yep, you may not be out of the woods yet, trust me (check my sig :-().

Get your hands on TSB 07-14-6 and be sure to keep checking your passenger floorbards after a rain, carwash, etc. The first time my 06 leaked, the dealer came back with the same fix as you have done, only it kept leaking! After some electrical craziness, 5 more fix attempts later, including brand new carpetting, pulling and resealing the windshield, and they never did fix it.

Good Luck...
