I decided to delete it completely. I purchased an amplified interior antenna. It perfomrs as well as the Ford antenna and I receive both FM and AM. The only problem left was the huge hole left on the fender. I had mine welded and painted. It came out great.
The antenna is mounted on the windshield right by the rear view mirror and is almost impossible to see. The antenna wire and the power were run down the right A pillar. Providing power to the antenna was a bit tricky since you want it to have power whenever the radio does. After searching for a number of various power souces, I chose the run/accessory lead on pin 2 of the J1 connecto on the Shaker 500.
I welded mine in (3 small holes, one large) did body work then had painter do the black and clear. (doin black and clear on decklid shaving and GT emblem removal anyway) Especially with solid color on new car, blend is no problem and only that area needs to be done. I'm sure you can't tell where it was on Odiaz car but we all know approx where it was. Could be easily added back if you wanted to; getting rid of it... that's the tricky part.
I totaly agree with you about the stupidity of the long antenna. I personally went with the shorty antenna (8") from mustangtuning.com. I have pics of the long antena and then the shorty but I can't post them at the moment (at work). As soon as I get home I can post them. I already posted the before and after pics on a previous post called "do you hate your long antenna" or something like that. If you live in a city the reception is still crystal clear. I have had absolutly no problems with reception and I drive all over this town. I think it makes an improvment on the look of the car too. Two thumbs up!
I got lucky, my local body shop gave me an excellent price. I removed and masked the mirrors, the CDC spoiler and the lower grille and had everything painted at the same time. He only charged me $175 but that was a special price because my son had helped him with some clean up work.
It came out great, the color match was perfect and the repair was smooth as ice. The finish on the mirrors was a little rough but after 2 more coats of paint and one coat of clearcoat, you could no lonoger see the original texture on the mirrors.
